Who is Carol Gray and what is going to be included in the conference?
Carol Gray is the Director of The Gray Center for Social Learning and Understanding in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  She recently completed over 22 years of employment with Jenison Public Schools in  Jenison,  Michigan,  initially as a teacher with students with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and in recent years as a consultant to students with ASD in inclusive educational programs. In 1991, Carol developed Social Stories™ and  Comic  Strip  Conversations  strategies  that  are used worldwide with children, adolescents, and adults with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).  She has published several resources on topics related to children and adults with ASD, including articles on bullying, death and dying, and how to teach social understanding.  (Carol’s complete three-part series of articles, Gray’s Guide to Bullying Parts I-III, 2000-2001, which had been unavailable for 1.5 - 2 years, was reprinted under one cover in a special edition of the Jenison Autism Journal, Vol 16 #1, 2004).  She is the recipient of the Barbara Lipinski Award for her international contribution to the education and welfare of people with ASD.

What is the conference about?

This practical 1 1/2 day workshop shares several of the Social Understanding strategies useful for young children with autism spectrum and social -communication disorders and those working on their behalf.  These strategies include Social Stories, ideas to foster a positive social climate and a multi-faceted approach to model and teach friendship concepts and skills. 

Using lecture, activities, and demonstration, participants will learn:

ahow to write and implement a Social Story, following the new guidelines for young children

astrategies to model and teach social understanding and friendship concepts and skills

This is a fun and fast paced workshop - participants leave with new skills and a wealth of down-to-earth social strategies.

What is the cost to attend this conference?
$85 for professionals and $55 for parents

Is there a group rate?

No, sorry. 

 

Will I receive a registration confirmation?

No.  Confirmations will not be sent.
 

Are meals included in the registration fee?
Yes. There will be a small breakfast and a lunch.

No. Sorry, the Coalition does not accept credit cards. Payment must accompany your registration.

Are there CEU's available for the Speech/Language Pathologists?
Yes, forms to apply for CEU's will be available at the conference registration desk. A $15.00 application fee will be applied.  .7 CEU will be issued for the one day conference.

Are there CEU's available for Occupational Therapists?
Yes, forms to apply for CEU's will be available at the conference registration desk. A $15.00 application fee will be applied.  .7 CEU will be issued for the one day conference.

What credits are available for other professionals?

A certificate of attendance will be available.
